Rent for a two bed flat £780. Theres three of us. Me, my wife Clare and our son Luke. Hes seven. In year two. Bills: gas, electric, water about £150 in winter. Bus and sometimes a taxi for Luke £90. Food £350. I barely eat meat. Its too dear. Clothes £40. Charity shop. Phone and internet £55. Subscripshuns £15. Just Netflix and thats it. Left over: about £420. Seems like £420 is sum money. It aint. Coz that £420 has to cover everythin I forgot. And everythin that happens tomoz. And tomoz always happens. Last year the washing machine packed in. Couldnt buy a new one for three months. Washed everythin by hand in the bath. Then got one on tick. Another £280 of debt. Before Christmas Lukes teeth started hurtin. Private dentist £120. Cant pay in installments. Debts piled up. Like a snowball. First it was £400 on the credit card. Then £600. Then £1,200. Now I owe £3,400. That dont include rent. I pay rent on time. Most of the time. Clare works as a cleaner in an office. Three nights a week. She gets home at 11 at night, crashes on the sofa and falls asleep. We barely talk. Not coz we dont love each other. Coz weve got no energy left.
