❌ Three years I did everything right. And still, I lost the lot.❌ Before you keep reading — I want to make one thing clear. I’m not the type who posts his personal business all over the internet. Never have been. I’ve always thought your problems are your own and you should carry them quietly. But three different people I told this to said the exact same thing: “Marco, write it down. Might help someone else.” So here I am, writing it. Who I am My name’s Marco Rinaldi. I’m 34, from Manchester, Wythenshawe born and bred. Grew up on a proper working estate. Dad grafted in the factory until he retired. Mum worked in the school canteen. Normal family — no fancy holidays, no dramas, just paying the bills and getting on with it. I never went to uni. Not because I couldn’t, I just didn’t see the point. Did a mechanical engineering course at college instead. Five years, proper qualification. Straight into work at 20. By 23 I was on the line making car parts at a supplier near Manchester. By 28 I was shift supervisor. Steady job. Regular pay packet. Clear routine. I’ve never been a big spender. No flashy holidays, no new phone every year. Lived in a little flat in Wythenshawe — £680 a month, nothing flash. Drove a 2017 Ford Fiesta that did the job. Cooked at home most nights. Friday nights I’d go to the local with the lads for a couple of pints, nothing mad. I was living tight, but I thought I was doing alright. Or so I told myself. What my month looked like in numbers Take-home pay — around £1,650–£1,700 after tax and National Insurance. Rent — £680. Bills (electric, gas, water) — in winter they’d hit £140–£160 easy, especially with the energy prices going up all the time. Council tax — £120. Petrol — about £110 a month. Car insurance — £65. Food shopping — I tried to keep it under £250 but rarely managed it. Phone and broadband — £40. Laptop on finance — another £28 a month, one more year to go. Fixed outgoings — usually £1,450 to £1,580. Left me with £100
