I had £45 left. An outstanding energy bill of around £540. And medication costing me £70–£110 a month. That was the evening everything changed. My name’s Iker Echeverría. I’m 62, living in the UK. My pension comes to about £850 a month. Out of that, roughly £220–£280 goes on bills — electricity, gas, water. Another £250–£300 on food. And after that… there’s barely anything left. I’ve worked with my hands all my life — construction, repairs, whatever I could get. Back in the day, I was earning £1,200–£1,700 a month. It was enough to get by comfortably. But retirement is different. Over the past year, everything’s gone up. Energy prices. Food. And medication… What used to cost £30–£50 now comes closer to £70–£100. So I started cutting back. First, anything non-essential. Then cheaper food. Then I started stretching out my medication just to make it last longer. Yes… it got to that point. Bit by bit, the debt built up: — energy bill ~ £540 — small loans ~ £260 Just under £800 in total. For me, that was overwhelming. Every morning I woke up with the same thought: how am I going to make it to the end of the month? One night, I couldn’t sleep. I was lying there, scrolling on my phone… and came across a video. A man, about my age, showing what he’d won. I didn’t believe it. But I checked the comments. And there were real people. Sharing numbers. Amounts. People in situations just like mine. And I thought to myself: what have I got to lose? I had £45 left. I put in £20. First try — nothing. Second — about £12 back. Third — almost zero again. I was ready to close it. But I gave it one last go. And that’s when everything changed. The bonus kicked in. The screen lit up. Multipliers: x10… x25… x50… I just sat there watching. When it stopped — I saw the amount: £26,800. I couldn’t believe it. Logged out. Back in again. Checked it properly. The money was there. I hit withdraw. Waited about 20 minutes. Then the notification came through.
