Every two years, the village gets a visit from something called the Grinbear. It shows up to propose, bringing gold, jewels, and ginseng as its betrothal gifts. But if the chosen girl refuses, the entire village is slaughtered. No one really knows if the legend is real, but it’s been a law the villagers have followed for generations. Roselle Shue, a college student, brings four classmates back to her village for research. They just want to record local folklore, but end up trapped in the middle of the Grinbear's wedding ritual.
