Rising from the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, this ivory-white marble mausoleum was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Nearly four centuries later it still stands as a symbol of devotion, and a single visit is enough to understand why millions travel here from every corner of the world. 🌅 Arrive at sunrise, when the gates open and the crowds are still thin. The air is cool and hazy, and the great dome slowly shifts from soft pink to golden white as the light climbs. Pigeons drift over the gardens, and the long reflecting pool mirrors the whole scene.
