Conor - if you're reading this, go and get fked! 😠🖕
Hey everyone, my name is Laura Weber. I’m 38. I work in an aged care home on the northside of Dublin, and I’m a single mum. I have a daughter, Aoife, she’s seven. I don’t own anything. No rich family, no partner to split the bills with. Just me. Rent is €480 a week for a two-bed that you can’t get warm in during winter, and the electricity and gas bills are pure murder. On my wages from the care home, that’s nearly half of everything I earn before I’ve even bought a loaf of bread. Lately it’s been destroying me. I do the early shifts and the night shifts. I wash people, I hold their hands while they cry for family who almost never visit, and I come home so wrecked I can barely get my shoes off. And the heating bills this year came in so high I actually felt physically sick when I opened them. Some nights, when Aoife is already asleep, I sit in the kitchen in the dark and just cry. Quietly, so she won’t hear. All I ever wanted was to stop counting. To not have that panic in my chest every time the card machine takes a second longer than usual. What broke me was something small. Aoife came home from school and asked if she could go to dance class on Fridays — all her friends go. €20 for the term. And I said no. I told her maybe next term. She just quietly said, “Okay, Mammy,” and went to her room. That night I properly lost it. The strap on her sandals is held together with a hair tie, and I couldn’t even give her forty euro. One of my colleagues, Deb, showed me something on her phone during break. She said, “Laura, how long are you going to keep killing yourself for peanuts, eh?” She’d seen Conor — yes, McGregor himself — talking about an app called Conor Games. She tried it and withdrew a couple of thousand. Showed me the screenshots of the money hitting her Bank of Ireland account straight away. I said, “Yeah right, another scam.” Honestly, it annoyed me. But I thought about it all day. Then that evening I’m lying in bed scrolling, and it’s everywhere. Th
