Today I tattooed a number on a girl’s neck. When she told me what it meant, I quit my job. 🤯 For those who don’t know me: my name’s Emily Carter and I’ve been working as a tattoo artist here in London for six and a half years. That exact one — you know, the old bloke from Gates of Olympus.” I burst out laughing. I ask her straight: “Are you absolutely hooked on slots or something? You seriously want a permanent tribute to the place where your entire pay packet disappears?” But she doesn’t laugh at all. She looks me dead in the eye and tells me a story that genuinely gave me goosebumps. She says no, she’s not addicted to gambling. She’d only ever played for a bit of fun. But then her whole life fell apart. She lost her job, her Universal Credit payments stopped, Barclays were ringing her every day about an overdraft she couldn’t clear, and her boyfriend had just left her. She applied for financial support, but there was a waiting list several weeks long. That same week, she got a demand for payment along with an eviction notice. She’d hit rock bottom. She was completely drowning. Then one night, in the middle of all that chaos, she was sitting on this app… and landed an absolutely mental win.
