"I moved to Amsterdam chasing a dream. Instead, I found only debt, loneliness, and 30 euros in my bank account." My name is Fatou Diallo. I'm 34 years old. A year and a half ago, I moved to Amsterdam. When the plane landed at Schiphol, I looked out the window and couldn't believe this was happening to me. Grey sky, light rain, airport lights. Back then, it felt like my life was finally about to begin again. Everyone back home said: "You're so lucky. The Netherlands is a dream." And I believed it too. I sold almost everything I owned. I borrowed money from relatives. I promised my family that within a year I'd have a good job, an apartment, and a peaceful life. The first few weeks, I posted photos from Amsterdam: canals, bicycles, narrow houses, sunsets over the waterfront. Everyone wrote: "You're living like in a movie." No one saw the truth. In reality, I lived in a tiny room in Nieuw-West. The room was so small that I had to put my drying rack next to my bed. The window didn't close properly, and in winter the wind blew in so hard that I slept in a hoodie and socks. At first I thought: "It's okay. I'll endure it. Things will get better soon." But nothing got better. My English was enough for daily life, but in shops and on the streets, I often heard Dutch. And sometimes — unfamiliar languages of other immigrants. You just walk past and feel like a stranger. I looked for work for almost two months. There were days when I walked 20,000 steps, going to interviews on NS trains and spending money on OV-chipkaart. I'd come back late at night with sore feet and another rejection. "Not enough experience," "No positions for foreigners," "We'll call you back." No one ever called back. Money disappeared too quickly. Rent for the room — almost 900 euros. Transport — 100 euros a month. Phone — 30 euros. Food at Albert Heijn — at least 300 euros. I started saving on literally everything. There were weeks when I ate rice, eggs, and instant noodles. Sometimes I went to bed
