Hi everyone, I'm Gemma, 34. I live in Surrey, just outside London — Egham, to be exact. I've worked as a nurse at St. Peter's Hospital for 12 years. The last three have been really tough. I'll explain in a moment. I live on my own. No husband, no kids, no pet. My one-bedroom flat costs £1,100 a month in rent. Then there are bills and food. After taxes, I take home about £2,200 from nursing. Just enough to get by living near London. I have one small pleasure: afternoon tea. And drink tea with lemon — remember how we used to?" I remember. All I want is a proper tea set. Not cheap plastic, not from IKEA. A real one with a gold rim, like my grandmother's. It costs £480. I haven't been able to buy it for two years. I know it sounds silly — a nurse in debt dreaming about cups and saucers. But it's my only dream. --- Last Saturday, I decided to treat myself. I went to Great Fosters hotel near Egham — an old Tudor building, very fancy, very pricey. Afternoon tea there costs £45. But I felt terrible and told myself "just once." Beautiful gardens, old wooden beams, a fire burning in th
