My name’s Thomas Wright, I’m 27, I work as a doctor’s assistant in Birmingham, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. And honestly, if you think that’s some stable, easy life - you’ve never worked there. It’s not just being “a bit tired” - it’s the kind where you sit down for five minutes and feel like you might just lose it for no reason. Shift after shift, 12-13 hours, days, nights, weekends. Mask on, gloves on, that constant hospital smell, people in pain, and you’re meant to hold it together for them even when you’ve got nothing left yourself. Half the job isn’t even medical - it’s forms, systems crashing, being told you uploaded something wrong, and still running around because there’s no staff. End of the month I’m taking home about £1,900. £900 goes on rent for a room, the rest is bills, food, getting around, helping my mum a bit… and that’s it, back to zero again. Every single time. He said he’d launched his own app, and whoever hit the top result would get a personal meet with him. Normally I’d scroll past, but when you’re that tired and skint you just think, “why not.” I downloaded it, put in £20. Thought to myself, that’s basically an hour of my shift. First nothing, then a small win, then back down. I was about to close it but stayed on a bit longer. Then it just took off.
