Hi everyone, my name is Finola. I'm 38, I live on the Isle of Man, in Douglas. I work at Terry's Tato's. It's a local place where we make baked potatoes with different fillings — cheese, beans, and other toppings. It's popular with locals, there are always enough customers. I don't earn much — about £2,500 a month. Half of it goes straight to rent. The rest goes on food, bills, clothes for my daughter, pocket money — and the whole salary evaporates the same month. I have a son. His name is Harry. We live together in a two-bedroom flat that I took out a mortgage on 5 years ago. Like all Brits, so I could leave something to my child. Not long ago I was cleaning the flat, washing the floors, and through my own stupidity I accidentally knocked over a bucket, and it fell onto an extension lead that the fridge and washing machine were plugged into. I got really scared, everything started sparking, the power went out in the flat. Thank God nothing happened to me, but in the end the washing machine and the fridge burned out. Just my luck. I had to take out a payment plan to buy new appliances — you can't do without them, you have to store food somewhere and wash clothes. It came to £1,200. I also had to replace the wiring, because it all burned out too — that was £400 with diagnostics, repairs, and the workmen's labour. So I ended up in debt. Because of that I missed 2 mortgage payments — there was just no spare money, I thought I'd sort it out somehow first. Because of that the bank started calling more often than my own mother. They said to pay urgently, because if the payments don't come, they'll take it to court, and then it could all end with repossession. Because of that I started worrying a lot, sometimes crying at night, because I have so many obligations now and my salary isn't growing. I always promised my son that we'd buy a nice tea set, and do real English tea ceremonies together, but even for that I don't have money now. I thought I'd never get out of
